How to List Your Clinic on Google Business & Verify It With an Electricity Bill

A Google Business Profile gets your clinic onto Maps and into local search. Here's the full process — listing, entering your location correctly, verifying with an electricity bill, and what to do when it gets stuck.

Create or claim your listing

Go to google.com/business and sign in with the Google account you want managing the listing.

  1. Search your clinic name first — if Google already has a listing pulled from an old directory, claim it instead of creating a duplicate.
  2. If nothing exists, click "Add your business" and choose your type:
    • Storefront — if patients visit you
    • Service-area business — if you do home visits only
    • Both, if you do a mix

Enter your location to match your electricity bill

This is the step people get wrong, and it's the #1 reason verification fails later.

Before you type anything into the address field, pull out your electricity bill and copy it exactly:

  • Same spelling, same abbreviations — "Rd" vs "Road", "Apt" vs "Flat"
  • Same building / flat / suite number
  • Same locality and pin code

If the bill is in a different name (landlord, family member) or shows an old address, fix that first — get the bill transferred, or use a different proof-of-address document instead. If your clinic name on the bill differs even slightly from your Business Profile name, the automated check will likely reject it. Match it letter for letter.

Verify using your electricity bill

Google asks for two documents from two different categories — your electricity bill alone won't be accepted on its own.

Category 1 Proves your business is real
  • Business / clinic registration certificate
  • GST certificate
  • Shop & Establishment license
Category 2 Proves your address
  • Electricity bill (recent — within 1–3 months)
  • Water or gas bill
  • Rent agreement
  • Property tax receipt

How to upload

  1. In Business Profile Manager, select "Verify by document" if it's offered — not every account gets this option.
  2. Upload a clear photo or scan of your electricity bill — no blur, no cropped corners, all text legible.
  3. Upload your second document (registration / GST / license).
  4. Submit and wait — review usually takes a few days, sometimes up to 5.

If document verification isn't offered

Many accounts in India are routed straight to video verification instead:

  1. Click "Get verified" → select Video.
  2. Record one continuous, unedited clip (30+ seconds) showing your signage/entrance (or kit, if home-visit only), you stating your clinic name out loud, and your electricity bill held up clearly with the name and address legible.
  3. Upload directly from the Business Profile app — you can't record offline and upload later.

Common troubleshooting

Stuck in "processing" for more than 5 days

Usually clears on its own. If it's been longer, go to Business Profile Manager → Help → Contact Us and describe the exact issue — this is free, regardless of any subscription.

Document rejected — name/address mismatch

The single most common cause. Re-check spelling, abbreviations, and floor/unit numbers against your electricity bill character by character. Even an extra space can trigger a rejection.

Electricity bill not accepted as proof

Make sure it's recent and isn't a reprint in a different format than your provider's standard bill. If it keeps failing, switch to a rent agreement or property tax receipt for that category instead.

No "Contact Us" or chat option showing

This is inconsistent by design — Google enables it based on issue type and region, not subscription status. Post your issue with screenshots in the Google Business Profile Help Community, where Google's own Product Experts pick up verification threads, or try tagging @GoogleMyBiz on X.

Profile suspended after verification

Usually triggered by a keyword-stuffed business name or address mismatch. Fix the listed info first, then appeal through Business Profile Manager. Note: utility bills alone are no longer accepted for reinstatement appeals (changed in 2025) — have your registration/license ready as the stronger document.

Wrong category selected during signup

Fix it before verification, not after — changing it later can reset your review and delay things further.

Pre-submit checklist

  • Electricity bill is recent (within 1–3 months)
  • Bill name matches your Business Profile name exactly
  • Address matches exactly, including abbreviations
  • Second document (registration/GST/license) ready and legible
  • Photos/video taken in good lighting, no blur
No subscriptions involved — just matching documents and patience for the review queue.
